Penng 1.0 · Overall
Why this one
The point of it is that you stop noticing it.
Forty grams, a woven strap and a machined case with no display on it. It reads your heart and your movement around the clock so that the app has something honest to work from, then it gets out of the way.
There is no screen, so there is nothing to check, nothing to notify you and nothing to charge every night. Fifteen minutes on the magnetic connector covers about a week of wear.
What it does that a phone cannot
- Overnight heart rate and HRV, which recovery is worked out from, and sleep timing, which the sleep score is worked out from
- Live heart rate streamed into the app while you train
- Workouts started from the app rather than from a watch
- A silent alarm that vibrates on your wrist
What it is not
- Not a smartwatch. No display, no notifications, no apps
- Not for swimming. 1 ATM is splash and rain, not immersion
- Not a medical device, and nothing it reports is a diagnosis
- Not required for food logging, trends, habits or the coach
